| Review: | 25 years and now this I just received a notice from USAA that they are canceling my homeowners insurance effective January 2 because I live in a area that has a high risk of forest fire. I just moved to Portland Oregon after 10 years in Southern California, the last 6 of which were in San Diego where we had to evacuate our house last year and nearly had to several years before that. I don't know who the idiot is that is making decisions there but I've been with USAA for 25 years. I have 2 cars, a vacation home, my primary residence and also umbrella insurance with them. I have had 1 claim in the last 25 years and that was when someone drove into the side of my house. THey seem to think that I will keep all of my other policies and insure my home elsewhere. I think they have a really screwed up idea of how this is going to happen. But more importantly, this used to be a great company. I have never shopped around or questioned their rates. When I needed insurance it was just automatic that I go to USAA. I don't know how much I've paid in premiums over the years but I know they've done well. But no more. If they think Portland Oregon is more of a forest fire risk than San Diego then maybe I don't want to be insured by them |
