Review: Erie Adjusters are unethical
Through NO fault of my own, I no longer have a car--a car I love, no less. I was rear-ended by a Chevy Silverado with a plow attachment as I sat at a red light. (Thank God I had the presence of mind to bury the brake in the floor before I was pushed into the vehicle in front of me!) The accident report (as well as the truck driver) admitted 100% fault put on the Erie customer. To seal the deal, we also had an off-duty police officer as witness. After a week, and hearing nothing from Erie, we finally contacted them. They made an appointment to come look at the car--waited, no one showed up or called to cancel. Finally, a very rude Erie adjuster did show up, made a show of taking pictures and tapping things into a laptop (never turned any lights on in the garage, however. Wonder how those pictures turned out?)and totalled my 12-year-old LHS which has had immaculate care since we bought it in 1999--routine maintenance, lifetime warranty on any part on which it was available, garage kept. I never had an accident in it, and I LOVED it. There is nothing out there now like it. My line has always been that "I will drive in a manner which will protect my car from evil." Well, "evil" hit it in the behind and Erie totalled it, giving us a paltry $2300 for it. They used only one comparison as their basis for what they would give us. Kelley Blue Book estimates its worth around $4000. Ebay lists it as such as well. Searching the internet, cars of the same year, color, and mileage were going for anywhere between $4,000 and $6,000. Erie told us to have OUR insurance company repair it, if we didn't like their estimate because this could be a very "prolonged exchange", and they were not budging on their estimate. So, once again, the victim has no rights. I have never dealt with a more unprofessional and unethical company!
